The Ironstar Movement

Microsoft has lived under a countless amount of praise by gaming journalists since the release of the Xbox 360. When the Playstation 3 released, 360 was claimed to be the superior console with the PS3 having “no good games”. The times have changed and Microsoft is under stiff competition.

With Playstation 3 having arguably the best exclusive lineup a console has ever seen within a one year span. Games including Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Demon Souls, infamous, and more have shown the variety and quality of content in the still young PS3 life cycle. Consumers who haven’t made the next generation jump are going to consider PS3 especially when Grand Turismo 5 and God of War 3 make their next gen appearances.

Tremendous strides in enhancing the Playstation Network have also given the PS3 great momentum going into next year. Though Sony hasn’t yet delivered on all the promises of Playstation Home, it continues to improve.

For Microsoft, they have improved features of Xbox Live and offer a variety of services including Last FM, and Integration of Facebook, Twitter and Netflix. The Playstation 3 also features Netflix, Twitter & Facebook (Twitter & Facebook via Web browser) at a less optimal experience.

Beyond Xbox Live there are very few things I can congratulate Microsoft on. Their exclusive lineup perished during the first 3 quarters of 2009; meanwhile PS3 got back to back AAA games. Forza 3 released in October and is a great game in its own respect but the damage already had been done. Halo 3 ODST tried to respond to Sony’s lineup, packing an estimated new 5 hour campaign, a new mode and a few new Halo 3 multipayer maps.

Microsoft still has tough competition to deal with next year. They have great games releasing on Xbox 360 but we don’t know if it will be enough. There is Splinter Cell Conviction, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake and Halo Reach, though rumors of lost exclusivity for Splinter Cell and Mass Effect have been floating around the net for some time now.

In order for Xbox 360 to continue their success next year, Microsoft must do the following:
1. Secure their exclusives
2. Get more ambitious (Give gamers a great game that isn’t a shooter)
3. Ensure Project Natal is a success by catering towards casual and hardcore gamers
4. Continue to improve Xbox Live
5. Lower the price of the arcade SKU for 360 and lower accessory prices

This gen is nearing its end and Sony is finally doing things. Last gen to this one MS had nowhere to go but up and Sony had nowhere to go but down. It doesn't matter if PS3 passes the 360 in sales. MS still succeeded. MS should be shot for RROD, that is for sure. Sony should be shot for being too slow on the draw. Sony did get cocky with the PS2, and they have payed the price for it this gen. I have both systems now (I consider myself lucky). If I had to pick one system over the other for this entire gen, I would still have to say the 360. Buying one now, it's a no brainer....PS3 ALL THE WAY!!

Racing all the way for me.....MS has delivered two top notch racers in the name of Forza Motorsport 2/3. With the exception of a money grab Sony has yet to come to the table with one. I have big hopes for GT5, PD better not drop the ball. 5 Years in the making!!! It better be nothing short of breath taking!!

Oh man I would love a kick ass exclusive that is NOT a shooter. Damn it I am tired of them. Great games no doubt especially for multiplayer but man I am sick of it. It's like having chocolate chip cookies all year round. Can I have some fucking milk with that for once?

Think about it guys, history actually teachers you things. The xbox came out and Halo 2 and people jumped all over it. Xbox was supposedly the most popular system right? Well look how that went down. Ps2 is still selling and look how ps2 started, pretty much the same way ps3 did. Sony aint nowhere near done. 360 is Trying to OUTRUN ps3 and is getting Tired while the ps3 is JOGGING at a steady pace and will eventually pass 360 and keep going. Hell, one of the Best Sony games didn't get started until the ps2 was into its years which was God of War 1.

Yeah I sure hope so Antonio, Sony got way to cocky and comfortable up top. Microsoft had lit a fire under their asses though.

MS has dated their system to me with a CD tray and no built in WiFi controllers that need batteries

@ Malik, did you lose your Marbels? The PS3 is just getting started and isn't even half way yet! Microsoft has to start thinking about releasing their new console, while the PS3 is set to go for another seven years!

I think Microsoft is sweating... because they are tired of running laps around Sony in sales. Yes the PS3 is more innovative, but Microsoft knows how to market with flawless execution and thats why they will always be ahead of the PS3. The gap will close, but the 360 won this gen IMO. Sony is gaining steam a little too late. Unless this holiday season and early next year is big for Sony, it's over, PS3 is finishing last...
