The Ironstar Movement

God of War 3 reviews are beginning to flood the web, and so far, many of the publication rumored to give GOW III a perfect score, have not only given it a less than perfect markings, but many have been in the low nines. I personally am not surprised by this, as games like Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain pulled in similar scores, yet I still enjoyed both of those games immensely. But there are many a pessimist/fanboy out there who will take GOW III's many 9 ratings as a stab to the heart. The game was still able to pull in some tens however. One of them being by Destructoid, a site many consider to be biased against the PS3. Check out how the game is fairing so far in the tabloids.

Thanks to VG247

I'm actually just voicing my skepticism because any time something gets hyped I start thinking the opposite by default until I actually try it myself. We'll see. I haven't played Uncharted 2 yet lol. Not counting the beta anyway.

I see what you're saying Jeremy, and I agree with a majority of it. I too have played ancient games through to present games. But the way I look at a 10 is "this is the most excellent game of it's genre and one of the finest, most fun games around right now in gaming.", looks like different people have different definitions of what 10 really means. I may have to review the game myself after all this, sometimes doing that helps you be a bit more open and honest.

I'm not easily impressed with games, because I've played a lot from ancient times through present. I honestly agree with everyone bitching about the reviews, but not because it didn't get all 10s. I just think a majority of reviews are bad. Very commercially influenced in most cases and you have to realize that a lot of people doing reviews aren't any different from any 10 people on this site or other sites. Just people with opinions, but usually bad ones. I think games should be like the Olympics. A 10 should be a very cold day in Hell. The rung that isn't supposed to be cold already. I don't think it's adequate to cite previous game play experience with GoW on PS2 and/or GoW collection to justify crowning GoW3 greatest action game evaR before you've played it is all I'm saying. Everything gets over hyped. I think it is fair to hold a game that is essentially the same but better to a higher standard. Otherwise where is the incentive for innovation? I, like any of you, will be in line to buy the latest title in my favorite series, but I also realize that it's not revolutionary most of the time. It's a working formula. I'm far more impressed with new. Hard to find new when everything has been done several times already. I'm currently developing a Guitar Hero/Call of Duty/Mario fusion platform/rpg for Project Natal.

Well Jeremy, we know from our own gamplay experiences with previous titles in the series and from the pre-release information that the gameplay hasn't differed much since the last God of War, which was and has remained the pinnacle of the genre. Of course we do not know in the technical sense but it's safe to assume that it is such.

I just feel that any game which shows the highest level of technical prowess combined with the highest level of gameplay, story, art design etc etc... any game which destroys everything else in the genre it dominates, such a game must surely be held high as the pinnacle of it's type. I've seen games come along and get 10's from just about everywhere, despite being somewhat lesser games than ones before them. I'm thinking of GTAIV and how you could argue San Andreas or Vice City were better. I'm thinking MGS4, as much as I love it I think overall MGS3:Subsistence is a better game. Games that have been nowhere near the all round achievement that GoW3 is and yet somehow still scored top marks. And no, it's not out yet. But it doesn't take a genius to spot a work of excellence when they see one.

It's just irked me somewhat this one, if the first groundbreaking game in the series isn't a surefire 10 and if the second then isn't for some unknown reason... then surely the fantastic third entry which takes every several steps higher and better than before must be worthy ?... apparently not. It's like "this isn't original"... "well it was original and revolutionary the first time and you still didn't give it a 10" sort of thing. It just puzzles me. This reviews business and the industry in general just seems somewhat predictable with which games will score super high 9's or 10's... very odd indeed. No doubt I'm missing something here, I just figured the best games should be given the best scores, apparently it doesn't work like that.

if the daft action comment was for me - I said I was reserving judgment, but it is an action game. I didn't say it was "just" an action game, just that it is an "action" game. How do we know it's the pinnacle of the genre anyhow? Reviews? I didn't think it was out yet. CoD4 however is just a shooter and MGS4 was definitely another MGS game, but a very good MGS game.

Its a shame that this games score has to suffer due to american journalism and there infatuation with broken products.
