The Ironstar Movement

As im sure everyone knows FF13 is out in stores now, and I highly recommend grabbin this game.

One of the longest-running and most prolific of all video game franchises, the Final Fantasy series has sold in excess of 90 million games over its twenty-year history. More than annual bestseller Madden NFL, but the franchise's success was born out of hardship the Final Fantasy series was a last minute desperate attempt to save Square Enix from bankruptcy.

Though it's hard to believe these days, the original game -- and its increasingly inaccurate "Final" moniker -- was intended as publisher Square's last-ditch effort to stave off bankruptcy. Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, it proved a colossal success in its native Japan. Western audiences wouldn't receive the game until 1990, and ultimately drove it to sales numbers that topped the two million mark, cementing Square's future as a key international publisher.

Us in the western shores didn't get FF2 or 3, altho we did get the 4th game so we called it the second, didnt get the 5th either, but we did get the 6th, but we called it the 3rd. Finally the 7th was released we had enough of the confusion and just kept the name as is. The legendary Final Fantasy 7.

Many though the Final Fantasy releases have been, it's the seventh that looms largest in gamer culture. Originally released in 1997 on the Playstation, this three-CD epic still holds one of gaming's most compelling stories -- and some of its most unforgettable characters. The emotional death of one of the game's central characters, Aeris, remains an oft-cited high-water mark in game history. One fan confessed to "crying at the dinner table" after the scene, and she's by no means the only one.

The latest episode, Final Fantasy XIII, marks the first new core Final Fantasy release in nearly four years. Although in some ways -- like its role-based character development system -- it harkens back to earlier games, it's not afraid to break with tradition. Final Fantasy heroes have traditionally been sensitive, introspective males, but but XIII flips that tradition on its head by introducing the series' first female lead since the SNES era, Lightning. Despite her pink hair, she's actually a touch masculine. She's thrust into a characteristically intricate plot, involving two warring cities, a resistance movement, and a huge supporting cast.

So just a message to you all, you never know, maybe your last resort will become your best new idea believe in yourselves out here in this worlds guys.

incredibly overhyped and underwhelming like most final fantasy releases in recent history. I'm not saying it's ugly or the worst game ever created, however, I get extremely pissed when big companies with lots of money ride their reputation and have everyone nodding their head at how awesome each new thing is when it really isn't. I tend to steer clear of giant franchise games unless they offer something to live up to the enormous hype. When every review says it's "good" but very linear, that to me is someone saying this isn't as awesome as we were told it would be. Graphics and cinema aren't going to be enough to get me to part with $. I'd rather support a smaller rpg that does something different and/or interesting.

Yeah I was like ":O" when I found this out before. Thanks for sharing the optimism of this story. :)

Absolutely LOVE Final Fantasy Series. I think that SQUARESOFT was better before the merger though.

Shit started to go downhill from there. Though probably not going to be in my top games list, FF13 is miles better than 12 for me, that's for sure.

That guy's mixup was on point. Snuck a taunt and an RSF in there, as well.
